The irrationality of a thing is no argument against its existence, rather a condition of it, 2013
Duration: 75 minutes
Location: Locale barber shop, Surat, Gujarat, India
‘The irrationality of a thing is no argument against its existence, rather a condition of it’ borrows its title from Nietzsche. This marks the first performance by me during my academic years. Through this performance I inhabited a local barber shop on the pedestrian, usually dominated by a particular class of males. As part of the performance I asked the barber to trim my hair and cover with a drape that I prepared using rose stems and coffee stains.
As the performance continued, a lot of men of different age groups gathered around the place, adding curiosity and discomfort to witness how the landscape was punctuated by the presence of a young woman.
