Hegemony of One Over Oneself, 2013-15
Text – Hegemony of one over oneself
Material – text on wall written using pencil, kitchen made clay, metal pins and oil color, plastic bag containing fish scales and hair collected over a period of six months
Dimension Variable
Hegemony of one over oneself was created within my studio space in the painting department, during the second year of my degree program in Faculty of fine arts, M.S.U, Baroda in 2015. The intervention was a result of a process that started in 2013. The small objects created a distance - making an unwalkable passage between the viewer and the text. The objects were assembled using kitchen made clay with adhesive and corn flour as primary ingredients and metal pins between 2013 to 2015. Ahead of the text lies a free floating bag of my hair and fish scales – thus both serving as self-portraits or as two metaphorical identities. The repetitive text written over a period of eight hours underlines the fight and the pull between two self – portraits.
